Indiana schools with high passing rates on ISTEP tests could receive additional funding under a proposal by Republican Indiana Senator Brandt Hershman. The plan applies to schools that have 85 percent passing rates on both the math and language arts sections of the standardized tests. Those schools would receive an extra 500 dollars per student passing the test. Based on 2011 results, the awards would total 17 million statewide.
It is believed the money would be part of additional funding allocated to schools in the next budget cycle. Of course, it must be approved by the Indiana General Assembly
