Processing clerks at the Terre Haute Postal Facility on Margaret Avenue are struggling with the realities of changes made nationwide. The local impact means that mail placed in collection boxes beginning with zip codes 475 and 478 are now going to Indianapolis for processing, leaving those clerks with nothing to do.
The search is underway for reassignments. Some of those clerks might become letter carriers. More changes, including staff reductions and the closing of some post offices could be in the offering as the Postal Service struggles with a shrinking customer base and mounting debt.
