APPLETON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Authorities have arrested a Kimberly man in connection with a weekend sexual assault.
Cops say a 51-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at the Kwik Trip convenience store on East Calumet Street around 3 a.m. Sunday.
The victim called authorities saying she had just been attacked inside the building. She was able to get out of the building and told police the suspect was still inside, armed with a gun.
When officers arrived, they found out 29-year-old Scott Schumacher had left the area.
Dispatchers later received a call that he was in the Town of Buchanan with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital from there.
"Schumacher is currently in the ICU at a local hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Appleton Police Sgt. Pat DeWall says. "He is expected to survive."
Schumacher is being held on possible charges of first-degree sexual assault, false imprisonment and endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon.
The victim was treated and released from a local hospital. Police say she and Schumacher didn't know each other and detectives are still trying to find a motive.
