Phoenix, Az (WSAU) Milwaukee Brewers’ starter Shaun Marcum said he felt good after throwing four innings yesterday in an exhibition against the San Diego Padres. Marcum gave up three runs on four hits in his first appearance since March 17th. He also gave up a pair of homers to Brad Hawpe and Will Venable. Marcum has had tightness in his throwing shoulder off-and-on during spring training. But he says he’s okay now, and he looks forward to his first regular season start for the Brewers on Saturday at Cincinnati. Milwaukee topped the Padres 5-to-3 in a split-squad game, as Ryan Braun homered twice and Rickie Weeks also went yard. Also, reliever Sergio Mitre – whom the Brewers acquired in a trade from the New York Yankees last week – gave up three hits in two-and-thirds innings. And reliever Zach Braddock threw one-and-a-third hitless innings after he was stung by a scorpion at his home on Saturday. In the other split-squad game, a Brewer team that consisted mostly of minor leagues got crushed by Kansas City 10-to-nothing. Royals’ starter Kyle Davies gave up just two singles and a double in six innings, with six strikeouts and one walk. K-C hit four homers, including one by ex-Brewer Alcides Escobar. Milwaukee is 18-11-and-1 in the Cactus League, and will play its final exhibition this afternoon against San Diego. The Brewers open their regular season on Thursday at Cincinnati.
