TERRE HAUET (WIBQ) - A number of cuts in the city budget may result layoffs for some city workers. Over the weekend city officials cut 1 million dollars from the budget because of continuing economic trouble. As of right now it's not known who or what departments may be on the chopping block. Mayor Duke Bennett says city leaders will begin looking at the various departments to see what cuts could be made.
He also left the door open to city workers saying that managers will also consider moving workers into another capacity if needed. However; he also added that the budget's bottom line will not be known until the spring, after the state reviews Terre Haute's spending plan. As for next year, Mayor Bennett says the city will look at buy out packages for workers in the 2012 budget. The Mayor also said he will make sure the proper work force is maintained so residents have the proper services.
