TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WIBQ) - With the general election now less than a month away, Terre Haute garnered a visit from a candidate for state treasurer. Democrat Pete Buttigieg said on Wednesday that small business needs to again be the focus of commerce. His comments came on Wednesday outside the Vigo County Courthouse. Buttigieg said as treasurer he'd put about 100 million dollars of the state's three billion dollar general fund into local banks as part of the Hoosier Capital Connector.

That would allow the banks to lend the money to small businesses that promise to create and keep jobs. The businesses would then get a lower interest rate on the money they borrow. He said Vigo County has an unemployment rate of nearly 12 percent, and that small business can help cure that by putting people to work.
