The Tigers have signed middle-reliever Joaquin Benoit to a three year deal worth 16.5 million dollars. The 33-year old right hander allowed just 30 hits in 60-plus innings of work last season with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Benoit missed the entire 2009 season because of a torn rotator cuff. He’ll team up with closer Jose Valverde in the bullpen, and replace Phil Coke who is scheduled to join the starting rotation.

Also in baseball, The Minnesota Twins' Ron Gardenhire and San Diego Padres' Bud Black were named Wednesday as the top managers in the American and National League. The American League Cy Young Award will be handed out today.
