SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - In the third installment of WHBL’s weeklong series exploring the City of Sheboygan’s ambulance service, we look at the ramifications should the city expand into patient transports.

It’s been established that Orange Cross’s business has declined since the City’s ambulance service began at the start of 2008. Now there is talk of the City expanding their operation into an area that is Orange Cross’s bread and butter…patient transports. There’s no doubt that transports would add even more even to the City’s bottom line, but lingering questions remain and someone asking questions is Orange Cross Executive Director Gerry Isbell.

In addition to serving the hospitals, Orange Cross is used by nursing homes and other care facilities for transportation of patients. Should the City take some of that business, Orange Cross’s profit margins could flat-line.

In Thursday's Part Four, the matter of government competing with private businesses for revenue will be addressed.
