WAUSAU, Wis. (WTAQ) - A new counseling center for veterans will open in Wausau.

Wisconsin House Democrats announced the facility Thursday – but they did not give an opening date. They also said counselors would be added to Vet Centers in Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay – and a 5th center is expected to open later this year in the La Crosse area.

Once that happens, the lawmakers say 90 percent of Wisconsin veterans will live within a one-hour drive of a Vet Center. Those facilities provide counseling in a non-medical setting.

The subjects include post-traumatic stress disorder, readjustment to society, and other mental health matters. The counseling is designed to correspond with services offered in the VA’s hospitals and outpatient clinics.
