TERRE HAUTE (WIBQ) - It appears that certified midwife services at Union Hospital’s Maternal Health Clinic will stop later this year when the contract between Union Hospital Health Group and Heartland Midwives at Union’s Maternal Health Clinic ends. The hospital reportedly told the Tribune Star the decision to end certified midwife services at was because of current economic conditions.

Unless there is a last minute change of heart, the service will end on October 29th. When the Maternal Health Clinic started the program, it was subsidized by federal grants. However; in recent years the hospital has had to subsidize the clinic since the federal funds have stopped.
