MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Six weeks of training is almost completed and some 300 members of the Wisconsin Army National Guard will be deployed soon.
The troops of the 1st Battalion, 147th Aviation Regiment have been in Texas since mid-June. They will head overseas by the end of the month.
They're expected to be in Iraq for about 9 months, returning next May. One of the missions will involve maintaining Black Hawk helicopters, which are affected by the region's hot weather. The troops have also been trained to react to roadside bombs and downed aircraft.
