TERRE HAUTE (WIBQ) - The Indiana Department of Homeland Security and local emergency management agencies will soon begin distributing 8,300 all-hazard alert radios to at-risk residents, including many right here in the Wabash Valley. The radios warn residents of approaching violent weather and other emergencies.

Almost 100 units will be given to people in mobile homes and others considered at risk including elderly and those in assisted-living. The radios were purchased and will be distributed using federal grant money. Sign ups for the radios began Tuesday at the National Night Out event in Fairbanks Park.
