Wednesday 5-5-10

I'm a little sad on two fronts today. Primarily because of the passing of one of my heroes. Baseball hall of famer Ernie Harwell passed away yesterday at the age of 92. Many was the night that I would sit and listen to Ernie describe the action of the Detroit Tigers. The man had a gift of being able to paint a picture with his words. I can still see Al Kaline, Denny MccLain and Willie Horton in my mind thanks to Ernie's vivid descriptions. In addition to being an outstyanding broadcaster, he was a class act and a truw gentleman. The world is a poorer place with his passing....

The other thing bringing me down is The Detroit Red Wings. They blew yesterday game against the San Jose Sharks. When I tuned in, the Wings were ahead 3-2 with just 8 minutes left in the game. San JOse scored in the last two minute to send the game to overtime where a Shark goal put the Red Wings in a 3-0 series hole. I guess it just sets up an historic comeback for Detroit....RIGHT!

Have you noticed the rise in gasoline prices? How could you miss it! Around Terre Haute, the prices is $2.95 a gallon and rising. It's fuuny how prices always rise about the time a holiday is coming up. And with the summer travel season just ahead, you can bet they won't be heading the other way any time soon! I've heard rumors of $5 a gallon gas thisd summer! Where did I put that bicycle?

My youngest son Mathew is celebrating his birthday today. Cinco de Mathew....It's difficult for me to comprehend that he is 27! It seems like just yesterday that I was 27! Mat and his brother Joe are great young men and I am proud to be their dad!
